What conditions can Lung 7 help with?

Lung 7 is used to boost immunity and treat cold and flu symptoms. It’s also helpful for alleviating thumb pain.

Where is Lung 7 located?

To find Lung 7, start by making a thumbs-up sign. When you do that, you’ll see a hollow form at the base of your thumb. This is a little triangular area that forms when you move your thumb into the thumbs-up position. This hollow is referred to as the anatomical snuffbox. Lung 7 is located about an inch and a half up from the anatomical snuff box. Once you find the snuffbox, slowly glide your opposite index finger or thumb up the arm until you feel a slight depression. Lung 7 is located in that depression, between the brachioradialis and pollicis longus tendons.

How do I perform acupressure on Lung 7?

Locate Lung 7 with your thumb, then grip your whole wrist with your opposite hand. This offers a solid hold on the point so you’ll be able to apply consistent firm pressure. Lung 7 isn’t usually a tender spot so you should be able to really press into the point. Hold Lung 7 for 2-3 minutes while taking some slow deep breaths. If you’re not using Lung 7 for thumb pain (in which case you’ll only press on the side of the pain), you can try alternating sides — Lung 7 on the right for 2-3 minutes, then Lung 7 on the left for 2-3 minutes. Experiment to discover which side gives you better results.

Anything else I should know about Lung 7?

Lung 7’s name is Broken Sequence. When our immune systems are "broken,” we’re susceptible to pathogens — or Wind invasions, as they’re referred to in acupuncture. Lung 7 helps mend these “breaks” and strengthens our natural resistance to disease.
